Bridge related products
A look at products used in the development and construction of steel bridges, Bi-steel, plates, tubes, rods and cables, sections and special profiles.
Bi-Steel
Bi-Steel is unique. It is a patented and cost-effective composite construction system for major structures. Pairs of steel plates are permanently connected by an array of transverse bars to form panels, which are rapidly assembled and filled with concrete.
Tubes
Hot finished structural hollow sections (SHS) have been used in both the superstructure and substructures of a range of bridges, from simple footbridges to landmark structures such as Merchants bridge and the Lowry Centre lift-bridge. The lightness of SHS, its torsional rigidity, and clean appearance are particularly suited to vierendeel and warren truss footbridges, with typical spans of 10m to 40m.
Plates
A form of steel widely used in a range of bridge types. Plates may be cut, shaped and welded to offer cost-effective, aesthetic and durable solutions in a variety of applications.
Rods and cables
Corus supply high carbon wire rod, which is drawn and processed into hot dipped galvanised high tensile wire for use in a range of cable supported bridges.
Sections
Hot rolled sections can form the main structural elements of smaller multi-beam and truss bridges. On larger bridges they are commonly used for secondary steelwork; diaphragms, bracing and cross girders.
Special profiles
Special profiles are tailor made hot rolled steel shapes, designed to meet individual customer requirements. The main products used in bridge construction are bulb flats for plate stiffening, and expansion joint profiles.
