New Kalzip facility officially opened by St Helens MP

24 Jul 2009

Dave Watts, MP (Labour) for St Helens North, today met with the proud employees of Kalzip Ltd - part of the market leading metal producer Corus – to mark the official opening of a new £1.4 million manufacturing and training facility at Haydock.

With an annual turnover of £35million, Kalzip’s existing UK business is based in Haydock Lane where it manufactures a wide range of solutions and finishes for roofs, façades and the entire building envelope. Investment in these new premises comes following a period of sustained growth and is part of a strategic move on the part of Kalzip aimed at strengthening its position as one of the leading UK construction product manufacturers.

The new premises are fully integrated with Kalzip’s existing facility, and will house a new production line and increased warehouse capacity – helping to improve business efficiency and better meet increasing demand. The new building will also include a purpose built training facility for internal employees and Kalzip’s associated installer network. The training area will also be made available for use by external companies, training bodies and for local requirements, in order to make best use of the new state-of-the-art resource at Haydock.

Dave Watts MP, comments: “The health of the manufacturing sector is vital to maintaining both a sustainable regional and national economy. At a time when a lot of businesses are struggling to keep their heads above water it is with great pleasure that I am able to celebrate with Kalzip the opening of these new facilities. Reflecting the business’ growth and success to date, the added production capacity will also improve Kalzip’s competitive offering when it comes to increasing market share in a more buoyant market - enabling them to cater for increases in production, deliver on larger projects and ultimately safeguard jobs.”

Having met with Jonathan Clemens, Managing Director Kalzip UK, Mr Watts MP was given a tour of the existing factory before participating in a ‘curtain drawing’ ceremony to officially open the new facility.

Jonathan Clemens, Managing Director of Kalzip UK, who hosted Mr Watt’s visit, added: “We are extremely pleased with the finished facility and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the team who managed the successful delivery of this major project and made sure we had a smooth transition. The new premises will facilitate a more stream-lined manufacturing process that will enable Kalzip to provide a more cost-effective and flexible service to both new and existing clients. We would like to thank Dave for coming along and marking this important milestone with us.”
