Magnashield - panel system for protection against electromagnetic fields
MagnaShield™ is an innovative panel system that provides protection against electromagnetic fields. The MagnaShield system has been developed by Cogent Power, a Corus business. A patent application has been filed for the system. Cogent Power is a world leader in the production of electrical steels for motors and laminations.
Increasing levels of technology and the use of high-powered magnets and energy sources means that the presence of, and interference due to, electromagnetic fields in increasing.
Electromagnetic fields may cause interference with sensitive or complex equipment creating effects such as ‘jitter’ on screens.
The EC Directive of April 2004 requires member states to introduce legislation to protect workers from the risks associated with electromagnetic fields by 2008.

MagnaShield is produced using a high permeability material and has achieved 20dB reduction in magnetic fields in testing.
It must be noted that each application is different and performance will rely on several factors, such as frequency, initial field strength and distance from the source.

Key applications include medical and power frequencies.
Medical:
MagnaShield has already been successfully installed in hospitals in the UK, including Heartlands Hospital in Birmigham and Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
Medical imaging devices that use high strength fields must be isolated from general public areas. Therefore, MagnaShield can provide effective shielding that reduces the field strength of very high field MRI scanners (3T) to the required levels of 5mT or less.

Power Applications:
The presence of high voltage wires, such as those used in power transmission or electrified trains and trams, may generate interference for electronic equipment such as monitors or display equipment.
MagnaShield may be used to prevent this interference by shielding the area or building in which the equipment lies. This concern is growing as buildings and space within built up areas reduces with increased occupation intensity. Please contact MagnaShield for further information.
