As the occupants of the many steel-framed towers at Canary Wharf know only too well, time is money. Structural steel is cost effective and quick to construct, which together make a financial case that cannot be matched by any other framing material. The breadth of the UK steel construction industry creates a competitive environment that has lead to an impressively high standard of on time, on budget delivery being achieved by a large number of registered and qualified steelwork contractors.

Resplendent over 86 acres, Canary Wharf is, in design terms, one of the world's most highly specified urban areas. It has been created by some of the world's leading architects and designers, including Cesar Pelli and Foster & Partners, who have, with precise attention to detail, made it the thriving and vibrant business district that it is today.
Canary Wharf, so called because of its many imports from the Canary Islands when in use as a dock, currently comprises 18 office buildings, a retail centre, a conference and banqueting centre, a Docklands Light Railway Station, a London Underground Station, 5 public car parks and landscaped grounds. Steel has played a vital part in this development, providing the frame for all of Canary Wharf's larger structures. The centrepiece tower (One Canada Square) contains over 27,000 tonnes of Corus steel. It has 50 floors and is 800 feet high, making it Britain's tallest building.
