The new college buildings have been developed to provide a new centre of excellence to exploit and improve the design and manufacture in the UK car industry. The CEME campus is located at the Heart of the Thames Gateway subregion, the largest brownfield development area in the UK. When the steel and glass campus opened its doors in September 2003 it accommodated 1,200 further education students, of whom 200 were Ford apprentices. The higher-level provision caters for around 400 engineering foundation degree and postgraduate business masters students. The facility design and aesthetic have been tailor made to meet it's business driven agenda of providing best in class learning facilities and services which include teaching and training rooms, workshops, learning resource centre, business innovation centre.
