BDES for Advance sections
Description of software
This program designs and analyses composite and non-composite beams under distributed and/or point loading. Both edge and internal beams are covered employing the new Advance™ range of sections. Shear connectors may be welded studs or Hilti HVB shear connectors.
Designs are given to BS5950: Part 1(2000) and Part 3(1990), Eurocode 3(ENV 1993-1-1) and Eurocode 4(ENV 1994-1-1). Design of openings in webs of beams is covered by SCI Publication P068: Design for openings in the webs of composite beams (1989) and is available for designs to BS5950 only.
The program covers the use of the following hot rolled I-sections: UKB, UKC; and the following hot rolled hollow sections: RHS and SHS. Options exist in the program to use a solid concrete slab or a steel decking acting compositely with the beam. For edge beams ONLY, the beam may also be loaded by a cladding element on one side. The decking may span perpendicular to, or parallel to, the beam on one or both sides.
Two analysis modes are available, Automatic Design and Beam Check. In Automatic Design mode, all sections that satisfy the design criteria are listed (in weight order). In beam check mode, a full design calculation for a selected section is given. This program does not incorporate the design of user defined sections.
Web openings of circular, elongated or rectangular form may be introduced as discrete openings.
