Important News
We recently discovered that these was a minor error in the section properties used for the RHS 250x100x12.5 section as represented in the RHS SLIMFLOR software.
SCI have undertaken a study of the affects of the error and, over a range of cases, believe that there is sufficient conservatism in the background theory for non-composite designs to offset the unconservatism introduced by this error. For composite designs where this conservatism does not exist in the theory, SCI believe that it is unlikely that the error will have gone unnoticed on site as a larger section than may have been expected (given the section properties selected) will have been employed.
We do advise that software is updated by following the instructions given below.
The RHS Slimflor program was prepared by The Steel Construction Institute. It analyses Slimflor EDGE beams fabricated from Rectangular Hollow Sections (RHS) or Square Hollow Sections (SHS), with a welded bottom flange plate.
The program includes options for the use of deep composite decking systems (CF210 or SD225) and precast hollow-core concrete units, subject to certain detailing requirements. The beam may also be loaded by a cladding element on one side. The decking or PC unit may span perpendicular to or parallel to the SLIMFLOR beam.
The analysis is in accordance to conventional principles in BS5950 : Part 1 : 2000 and SCI Publication P169: Design of RHS Slimflor edge beams which should be referred to for background information.
The program performs design optimisation on all the sections in the program database and lists ALL sections that satisfy the design criteria. Only 6 SLIMFLOR sections may, however, be listed on the printer.
