SIDS - Slim Flor Integrated Design Software

Description of software

Slim Flor integrated Design Software – ‘SIDS’ – designs and analyses flooring solutions utilizing both Slimflor® Fabricated Beams (SFB) and Asymmetric Slimflor Beams (ASB) ®.  The software improves, updates and replaces the ASB design software (most recently issued as ASB PCC version 4.2) and the Slimflor design software (most recently issued as Slimflor version 2.0).

SIDS includes the following new features –

  • Presentation of design schemes utilizing ASB and Slimflor sections satisfying the design criteria, and the facility to select and optimise an individual solution.
  • Design with SD225 and CF210 takes account of the latest guidance on 50mm bearing length.
  • PC units may be selected from a list of common units, for Slimflor beams a new check has been introduced for PC unit end shear.
  • PC units may be automatically selected based on span and buildability criteria.
  • Slimflor® beam range has been extended to include the full Advance® section range.
  • Slimflor® beams may be designed as edge beams in conjunction with PC units.
  • Slimflor® beams may be designed with pattern loading

In addition SIDS includes all features of both ASB and Slimflor® design software -

  • Options for the use of CF 210 or SD 225 deep decking systems, attached to the beam on one side (edge beams) or on both sides (internal beams). For edge beams ONLY, the beams may also be loaded by a cladding element on the other side
  • Precast hollowcore units as an option and under both normal and fire design. The program checks for buildability issues and outputs forces for the design of connections.
  • ASBs designed with or without structural web openings, under distributed and/or point loading. Openings, where present, can be circular, rectangular or elongated oval.
  • For ASBs, where used, composite action is through shear bond ONLY and is assumed to be developed only if a minimum concrete thickness of 30mm is provided above the beam top flange, otherwise the section is treated as non-composite. Only a non-composite design is carried out with precast concrete units.
  • Design principles are in accordance with the appropriate parts of BS 5950 : Part 1 (2000), Part 3 (1990), Part 8 (1990), SCI P175: Design of Asymmetric Slimflor Beams Using Deep Composite Decking (1997), SCI P342: Design of Asymmetric Slimflor Beams with Precast Concrete Slabs, SCI P110: Slim floor design and construction, SCI P248: Design of Slimflor fabricated beams using deep composite decking.
