Making steel

Introduction
This section gives an overview of how iron ore, coke and limestone are combined to manufacture steel.

Coating steel
Where steel is used externally, it is coated to both protect steel and create an appealing appearance.

From iron to steel
Iron is converted into steel, by the basic oxygen steel making process. Then by injecting oxygen through a lance just above the surface of the hot metal.

Iron making
The raw materials, iron ore, slinter, coke and limestone fed into a blast furnace to make iron.

Shaping steel
This is the process by which slabs, billets and blooms are rolled into the final shape used in construction.
