Manufacture of most steel construction products involves one of the following processes:
1.
Fabrication of hot-rolled and hollow sections for structural applications
This involves:
Cutting of sections to the required length
Welding of plates and cleats onto sections
Drilling holes
Shot-blasting to clean the steel prior to painting
Coating the steel with corrosion and/or fire protection
2.
Cold roll-forming of sheet or coiled steel to produce roofing, cladding and decking products.
This involves:
De-coiling sheet steel from a large coil
Rolling the sheet steel into the required profile
Cutting the sheets to the required length
3.
Press braking of smaller, more complex products such as lintels.
This involves cutting sheet steel which is then bent and folded into the required shapes using a press-brake. After the product has been formed, it is often coated for corrosion protection.
