The right direction
Nothing could be more natural or sustainable than to build our world with steel. Iron, the basic raw material, is the most abundant element on Earth. This inexhaustible natural resource becomes truly infinite as steel can be recycled indefinitely without loss of property or performance.

Steel construction has no equal in sustainability. The recycling and reuse rate for steel construction products in the UK is 94% and as high as 99% for structural steelwork.

Achieving sustainable construction
The goal was to understand how sustainability is affecting, or is likely to affect in the future, the procurement of construction services. The study also included a survey of the attitudes of steelwork contractors to sustainability issues.
Sector sustainability strategy
Published in December 2002, the sustainability strategy for the UK steel construction sector set the scene for sustainable construction within the wider context of sustainable development. Documenting sustainability progress achieved by the sector, it set out a coherent strategy of priority sustainable development objectives for the sector. Subsequent progress against these objectives has been recorded annually
